Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace [Dental Professionals]

MHFA in the Workplace [Closed group for the Dental Profession]

Join this online MHFA for the Workplace course where together with other dentists, practice managers and dental professionals you will learn how to use an evidence based framework to  support a colleague in your practice who may be struggling with their mental health.

Do you know how to support someone in your practice who is struggling with their mental health?

Mental illnesses are common. 1 in 5 Australian adults will experience a mental illness each year but only half will access professional help. This may be due to lack of understanding about mental illnesses and their symptoms, stigma and uncertainty about help available.

This is where MHFA comes in. Just like physical first aid courses train members of the public to provide basic first aid to someone with a physical health condition, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches skills to help someone experiencing a mental health problem.

What’s the Blended Online MHFA in the Workplace Course?

The Blended Online MHFA in the Workplace Course has been adapted from the Standard MHFA course for adults into a 100% online format consisting of two parts:

Part 1 – Self-paced interactive eLearning (approx. 5-6 hours)

The eLearning course component presents an overview of mental health problems and mental health crises:

Mental illnesses: depression, anxiety, substance use disorders and psychosis.

Mental health crises: suicidal thoughts and behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury, traumatic events and aggressive behaviours.

Part 2 – Instructor-led webinars delivered via Zoom (2 x 2.5h hours) on 18th & 19th April from 9.30am to 12pm AEST.

An opportunity to revise content covered in the self-paced eLearning program and to consolidate the application of this content with the development of practical skills in a group environment.

How is this training adapted to the dental profession?

The MHFA course has been developed and evaluated by MHFA Australia.  As an accredited course it is important that the core content is consistent among all courses. However, by coming together with other dental professionals you will have the unique opportunity to contextualise the theory into the dental practice setting, with opportunities to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities within the workforce.

What's included?

Each participant will receive access to an interactive online learning course to complete before the webinars and their own MHFA manual to keep. Upon completion of the training participants can complete a short assessment and if they pass they will become an accredited Mental Health First Aider for 3 years.

Who can attend?

This course is offered exclusively for members of the dental profession.  Participants must be based in Australia.

What's the cost?

$350 including the MHFA fee for access to eLearning modules and hard copy manual posted to your address.
